Detail: This workshop will focus on the issues and concerns facing young mother and the people who work with them. Participants will gain helpful information and learn skills to better service this population. Topics to be covered are: Development, discipline and engaging activities for young mothers and their children. Participants will discuss parenting issues involving young mothers, for example: ambivalence, stress, anger, immaturity. Discussions include ways to approach young mothers and how to empower and mentor them.

Event: BRIEF SOLUTION ORIENTED THERAPY
Date: September 15
Time: 9AM-5PM
Detail: There are key knowledge/skill sets required for services to youth and families in community and residential programs where the average length of stay has decreased over time. This six-hour workshop is designed to provide and understanding of Brief-Solution Focused Therapy as applied to working with the substance affected client and their family. Participants will be introduced to the role Brief-Solution Focused Therapy can play in engaging the substance affected client and their family for change, in a timely manner. In addition, the participants will have the opportunity to apply the concepts in interactive activities and case studies.

Event: HELPING TEENS BUILD HEALTHY SELF-ESTEEM: A WORKSHOP FOR YOUTH SERVICE PROVIDERS

Detail: Self Esteem is the key to lifelong success and achievement: Studies show that during the teen years, self-esteem rapidly decreases. When teens feel bad about themselves they are more likely to engage in high-risk behaviors and make choices that are self-sabotaging and counterproductive. Add to that, the task of adolescent social development and many teens have a tough time feeling good about themselves. In this workshop adapted from the book, “Young, Gifted and Doing It: 52 Power Moves for Teens, “by Cassandra Mack, participants will learn strategies and exercises to hop teens build healthy self-esteem, increase their level of confidence and uncover their resiliency. If you work with teenagers, then this workshop is a must for you.

Event: EMPOWERING GIRLS FOR LIFE: A WORKSHOP FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS

Detail: The media is relentlessly pursuing our girls. And the evidence shows that they are succeeding-girls obsessed with their looks, getting boys to like them and doing whatever it takes to be popular and fit in. This provides youth service practioners with self-esteem building and personal power activities as well discussion questions that they can incorporate into their existing programs for girls. Further, it will help youth service practitioners develop a better understanding of what teenage girls need to grow into confident, empowered young women who make choices that respect their values, boundaries and bodies.

Event: DEVELOPING A YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Event: USING HIP HOP AS A TOOL TO TEACH LIFE SKILLS TO YOUTH
Date: September 28
Time: 10AM-1PM
Detail: Love it or hate it hip hop is here to stay. The attraction that it holds for youth is powerful. As a youth service provider you have many opportunities to utilize hip hop as a tool to bridge generational gaps and provide an open forum to dialogue about issues that impact youth and tends that influence youth culture. From old school to new school, from the Sugar Hill Gang to Jay Z and Drake, there is a message in the music. While some of it is negative, hip hop is also a gateway into adolescent culture and the trends that service providers need to be aware of. This workshop facilitated by national youth expert, Cassandra Mack will provide youth service providers with a framework for using hip hop as a tool to teach life skills to youth.
