Day Program Supports Healthy Minds

The Mental Health Day Program provides assessments, recreational activities, group and individual therapy, as well as medication management, case management, and supportive housing placement assistance to mentally ill, developmentally delayed, and chemically addicted teens.

Through the Mental Health Day Program, workshops have been conducted for Crisis Center staff on mental health topics such as: symptoms and identification of the mental illnesses most common among our youth, how to handle mental health emergencies, and when it is appropriate to call an ambulance and emergency services.

Of the youth who come to us for services, 36% have had professional counseling, 21% report being prescribed medication to help with feelings or behaviors, and 17% report a history of psychiatric hospitalization.  Covenant House has partnered with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York and their Mobile Crisis Management Service to provide immediate or next-day evaluation and assistance to young people experiencing mental health crises, including severely depressed teens.  This urgent care is an invaluable way to ensure that at-risk kids get the help they need in an environment where they feel safe.
