This workshop is geared for youth service providers who work with youth in a formalized helping capacity.  Youth service providers will learn the basic building blocks and techniques to help youth meet their goals and come up with a solution to their problems.  If you work with youth in a formalized helping capacity, this workshop will assist you in: developing your professional helping skills, navigate the various stages of the casework process, set appropriate boundaries with youth and how to deal with resistance.  Specifically, this workshop will cover:

  • What Professional helping is and what it is not.
  • How to create a safe environment, build rapport and get youth to open up.
  • The 7 basic helping skills: what they are and how to utilize each.
  • Clarifying roles, boundaries and expectations: What youth should expect from the helping relationship.
  • Resistance: Why you should expect it and how not to take it personally.
