October 19, 2006 -- Providing Inspiration is a Piece of Art

From the outside, Covenant House New York appears to be a typical building, distinctly defined by its pothole windows, until stepping through the front door. The facility provides residence to homeless and at-risk youth, seeking assistance in order to develop the necessary skills to gain independence. On any given day, residents crowd the halls, like the streets of Manhattan during rush hour, on their way to employment trainings, GED classes, or to their rooms after a long day of work.

When thinking of the appearance of the facility, one could think about a bland, dreary environment resembling more like as institution rather than a place of residence. But now, thanks to the generosity of JP Morgan, the residents of Covenant House New York have the opportunity to admire more than 100 decorative works of art while walking through the halls of the facility.

As part of the Business Committee for the Arts (BCA) program, known as From Workplace to Public Spaces: Gifting Art from Business Collection to Public Institutions, Covenant House New York has the ability to display these fine pieces of art throughout its facility for educational purposes. The donation has helped left the spirits of the young people and has opened the door for communication between residents, staff, and visitors.

On behalf of everyone at Covenant House New York, we would like to thank JP Morgan and the BCA for donating these pieces of art and for making the halls of Covenant House livelier.
