About Us: Facts & Stats

Facts & Stats

At Covenant House New York, we work with young people upon arrival at our front door, regardless of the reasons that brought them to us. Whether they are running away from home because of abuse or neglect; were thrown out; coming out of a mental institution, jail, hospital or coming in from the subways or the streets, they have a place at Covenant House, no questions asked. Our doors are opened 365 days a year to provide youth shelter, clothing, food, educational, vocational, medical and counseling services.

For the fiscal year ending June 30 2008, Covenant House New York provided services to over 6,150 youth.

About 60% of the youth who come to Covenant House are coming to us for the first time. Our population is 58% female and 42% male, with 71% over the age of 18 and 29% under 18. Our population is heavily minority with 61% African American, 33% Hispanic, 4% Caucasian, and 2% other.

  • 3191 youth received Crisis Services
  • 282 youth stayed in our Rights of Passage Program
  • 1171 youth were served in our Community Resource Centers
  • 1788 youth were served through our Outreach Programs
  • 261 psychiatric evaluations were conducted by our Mental Health Program

These youth received medical care, educational services, job training and job placement services.

  • 726 youth were placed in jobs
  • 213 completed our training programs
  • 2238 youth visited our health clinic

Covenant House New York depends on the generosity of our donors to support our programs and services each day. We raise 75% of our $22 million budget each year from private sources with 25% coming from government sources.
